Now, fans can learn some interesting facts about the inspiration behind and the making of this movie, through the words of the filmmaker and different members of the crew.

10 The Creator

Many people helped to make this movie happen, but the woman behind the amazing story is Nadia Jordan. Nadia is a very talented filmmaker and actress from London, and although now she lives and works in the United States, her career started in the UK.

She worked for the BBC, Channel 4, Endemol, and Sky, after graduating from the London School of Film & Television. Since her career started, she's won countless awards, many of them because of For The Love Of George.

9 Similarities With The Character

Nadia Jordan has, admittedly, based a lot of the character's personality and ambitions on personal experiences from when she was younger. When talking about this, she said that she "did move to the States following the break-up of a relationship … although not to look for George!"

She then added that "several events that take place in the film happened to me …f or example, I visited a psychic in Beverly Hills and it turned out that she had read for two of George Clooney’s ex-girlfriends!"

8 The Inspiration

The filmmaker and star of the movie, Nadia Jordan, has told the story about what inspired her to make this comedy. It all started with reading the book Not On Our Watch, by John Prendergast and Don Cheadle. It drove her to research George Clooney's humanitarian work, and she was touched by it.

She didn't want to only express her love for George Clooney, she also wanted to raise awareness of the issues the actor was fighting for. The movie, it seems, was her way to do both.

7 The Female Lead

When talking about the female protagonist, Nadia Jordan gave a very detailed description of what she had in mind when she wrote and performed the character. She didn't want her love for George Clooney to be her only personality trait.

She said, "In writing Poppy’s story, it was really important to me to keep her relatable and somewhat grounded. Her romantic fantasy about George was a way of escaping a life she was not fully living and ultimately I wanted her to find her own voice and stand on her own two feet. I did not want to follow along the lines of the all too predictable happy ending."

6 George's Engagement

It took Nadia a few years to write the script for the movie, but she had a clear vision in mind, so she took her time. She said that when she moved to Los Angeles, George Clooney was considered one of the most eligible bachelors in Hollywood, so she based her writing around that idea.

However, when she was very advanced in the story, George Clooney announced his engagement and almost derailed all of her work. Luckily, Nadia's a very talented writer, and she was able to adapt the script and make the movie happen.

5 Financial Issues

Like most independent films, For The Love Of George faced some financial troubles when it came to its making. When looking for partnerships, Nadia Jordan was told by a financer that she had to change the ending of the movie if she wanted him to help her, which she refused to do.

This, among other things, made Nadia decide that she would not only star in the film, but also produce it. Despite all the struggles, she managed to do the movie her own way.

4 Choosing A Director

As the movie revolved around a woman who was running away from a life that made her unhappy, trying to find herself, and maybe love in the process, it was important for Nadia to have a female director. Her first director quit unexpectedly, but after some time, she found Maria Burton.

"It was really important to me to work with as many women as possible and we did have a predominantly female crew. This was a female-driven story with a female protagonist and a female writer/producer, so it made sense to have a female director, DP, editor … and as many more females on the set as we could!"

3 The Festivals It Went To

Before it was released as a mainstream movie, For The Love Of George was shown in a few festivals and it did very well. In 2017, the movie was part of the Official Selection at the Chicago Comedy Film Festival (where it won the Audience Choice Award and Top Female Filmmaker Award), at the La Femme International Film Festival, and the Orlando Film Festival.

The following year, it was an Official Selection of the Saint Paul Frozen Film Festival, where it won the Best Comedy Feature Award.

2 The Profits

Aside from telling a romantic and funny story, For The Love Of George also focuses on many important issues. Based on a book about the history of Sudan, the Darfur crisis, and George Clooney's humanitarian work, it's clear that the filmmaker is very involved in social issues.

It makes sense that she would give part of the profits from the movie to charity, and the organization she chose was the Enough Project, George Clooney's foundation Not On Our Watch's main partner.

1 Chicago Comedy Film Festival

One of the many festivals For The Love Of George participated in was the Chicago Comedy Film Festival, and the creator of the festival, Jessica Hardy, talked about why the movie and the creator Nadia Jordan won two awards.

"Because comedy, in the past, has been dominated by masculine voices. We’ve made it part of our objective to accept a fair amount of female producers, writers, and directors," she explained. It's good to see women supporting each other and acknowledging each other's talent.
