Love in the real world - Petoskey News-Review

"'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?' Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

— Mathew 22:36-40

We teach that we are to ‘Love our neighbor as ourselves, but we realize that we struggle to love some people.

Do their faults and attitudes bother us? We pray and we try, but still we have moments of frustration and perhaps even anger toward them.

The up-side to this is that we are still trying and have not given up. It also means we are not living in a fantasy world where everything is beautiful it’s own way. Nice song, but not very helpful some days.

The fact we struggle to love is not an indictment of our faith. It means we are trying to love real people and haven’t fooled ourselves about our present need for help in the process.

Prayer: Lord? I struggle but I’m still hanging in there. Thanks for hanging in there with me.
