Fantasy Football Heat Index

Quarterback

Jordan Love (QB – GB)

Stats: 15/27, 245 passing yards, 3 touchdowns

Position Rank (pre-MNF): QB3 (23.0 points)

Analysis: In the first game in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love threw three touchdown passes on only 15 completions. Unfortunately, Love doesn’t get to play the Bears every week, but his next five contests against Atlanta, New Orleans, Detroit, Las Vegas, and Denver aren’t too daunting on paper. A healthy Aaron Jones and Christian Watson would help matters, but a couple more performances like Sunday will cement Love as a borderline QB1 this season.

Running Back

Tyler Allgeier (RB – ATL)

Stats: 15 carries, 75 yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 3 receptions, 19 yards

Usage: 28/51 snaps, 10 routes run, 3 targets

Position Rank (pre-MNF): RB4 (22.9 Half-PPR points)

Analysis: Fellow Falcons running back Bijan Robinson gets all the love, but Tyler Allgeier was pretty involved in Atlanta’s 24-10 victory over NFC South rival Carolina. Allgeier only played four fewer snaps than Robinson, but he ran eight fewer routes and received half the amount of passing targets. Allgeier (15 carries) did out-pace Robinson (10 carries) on the ground, but we must note that a large portion of those came in garbage time.

Robinson played in 26/33 snaps in the first three quarters, while Allgeier was out there for 11/15 in the fourth. Allgeier clearly has a role and should be rostered in every league. Just keep in mind that a 54% snap share, 17.6% target share, and 60.0% running back rush share won’t happen every week.

Kyren Williams (RB – LAR)

Stats: 15 carries, 52 yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 0 receptions

Usage:  53/81 snaps, 29 routes run, 2 targets

Position Rank (pre-MNF): RB7 (17.4 Half-PPR points)

Analysis: The touchdowns are most important to fantasy managers, but Kyren Williams’ overall usage is an encouraging sign for prolonged fantasy success. Cam Akers did receive seven more carries, but eight of his 15 carries came in the final four minutes of garbage time. Williams played 25 more snaps, ran 25 more routes than Akers, and handled more early-down work than anticipated.

The potential for a running-back-by-committee approach in Los Angeles might limit everyone’s upside, but Williams is worth a speculative add in all formats. He’s available in nearly 90% of ESPN leagues.

Wide Receiver

Puka Nacua (WR – LAR)

Stats: 10 receptions, 119 yards, 0 TD

Usage: 63/81 snaps, 35 routes run, 15 targets

Position Rank (pre-MNF): WR8 (16.9 Half-PPR points)

Analysis: With Cooper Kupp on IR and sidelined for at least four games, the Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford needed someone to step up in his place. Rookie wide receiver Puke Nacua called “dibs” and received a whopping 15 targets in his NFL debut. Nacau trailed Van Jefferson (75 snaps) and Tutu Atwell (64 snaps) in total playing time, but each wide receiver ran an evenly distributed 35 passing routes. Nacau’s 39.5% target share is the fourth-highest by a rookie wide receiver since targets became a stat in 1992.

Baltimore rookie Zay Flowers’ 45.5% share today is the second-highest of all time. He won’t receive 15 targets every game — and Cooper Kupp could return as early as Week 5 — but there’s no reason Nacau can’t carve out a consistent role in this offense. He’s a must-add if available and a potential every-week starter if Kupp is out for an extended period.

Tight End

Hunter Henry (TE – NE)

Stats: 5 receptions, 56 yards, 1 TD

Usage: 63/80 snaps, 42 routes run, 6 targets

Position Rank (pre-MNF): TE1 (14.1 Half-PPR points)

Analysis: Tight end is a notoriously tough position to forecast. It’s even tougher on a slate missing Kansas City’s Travis Kelce and Baltimore’s Mark Andrews. Henry is currently the TE1 heading into Monday Night Football and was a near-every-down player in Week One. It should be noted that Mac Jones set career highs in both completions (35) and passing attempts (54) after Philadelphia jumped out to a 16-0 first-quarter lead.

Finding consistent production on the waiver wire is tough, but a 5-56-1 TD performance in that kind of game environment doesn’t move the needle much for me. TE-needy teams should consider adding Henry, but he’s not a must-start next week against Miami.
