PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Monday night, the Pueblo City Council unanimously approved to partner with Bird to bring electric scooters to the city.

In March, the California-based company expressed interest in expanding to Pueblo.

Under the approved ordinance, the City will pay an initial fee of $500, with a renewal license fee of $200 per year.

Pueblo is set to receive 200 scooters around the city. Riders can access the scooters through an app. It will cost $1 to unlock a scooter, with an additional per-minute rate for an average of $5 to $10 per ride.

City council members approved the operating regulations of:

  • Riders must be 18 years of age or older
  • Electric scooters are not permitted on sidewalks or other pedestrian walkways or paths
  • Electric scooters are to be operated on streets or bike lanes
  • Electric scooters are to stay to the right of street lanes and yield the right of way to bikes in bike lanes
  • Helmets are encouraged
