Love capsule: My husband and I lead a glamorous life on social media but our marriage is nothing like it - Times of India

Social media has gained so much precedence over the last few years and people have even been making a living out of it. So many influencers are open to showing their daily life on Instagram, Snapchat etc. They have millions of followers and their fans are always up for seeing their favourite influencer’s lifestyle. Like all those influencers and content creators, my husband and I also belong to that field.
We began showcasing our love for a luxurious lifestyle on Instagram. It started with posting photos of us enjoying coffee while sitting in our spacious balcony and then we went on to post pictures of us enjoying a vacation in the Maldives. My husband and I love a luxurious lifestyle and we both love travelling and living the fine life. So, we decided, “why not pursue our passion into a side hustle as well?”
We grew together as a couple. Our social media account’s main motive was to be a couple whom everybody looked up to and aspired to be like. Our followers list grew and the number of partnerships we did also grew, helping us earn millions. But with all this growth, my husband and I…somehow lost ourselves.
We spoke less and when we did, it was all about our work. Planning trips with him for our social media brand became more of a chore. We began spending our entire day talking about deals and how we could grow our content. What started out as a passion project soon turned into a lifeless one.
Our fans keep commenting about how they want to be like us and how inspirational we are for them. They keep commenting ‘#couplegoals’ all the time but now that I see such comments and I feel so sad. I am utterly disappointed with how my relationship with my husband has become. We hardly have any alone time anymore, nor have we gone on a date for over a year. It feels as if our marriage fizzled out the moment we decided to become influencers. Social media became an important part of our life as all we thought and talked about was our work. All those photos of me kissing my husband during the sunset at the beach or him putting a beautiful necklace around me—all seemed to be fake. We no longer had the same kind of intimacy and love for each other as we used to before.
From life partners, we quickly became roommates who had no time or love for each other anymore. I could understand that my husband is feeling the same.
Social media is fake. Our story is a testament to that narrative. The grand and luxurious lifestyle we show on our social media profiles is all fake. We don’t even talk to each other any more in reality. We both are too focused on rising as social media stars to notice that we both have lost each other as husband and wife.
