I Got Engaged At The 'Love Is Blind' Resort And You Should Too - Delish

For all its flaws, the Netflix dating show Love Is Blind never fails to entertain us. Sure, they don’t always feed their contestants (allegedly), but they do know how to treat their newly engaged couples once they’ve officially stated their intention to lock it down for life. This season’s reward for committing to a lifetime with someone you’ve known for less than two weeks? An all-expenses paid romantic vacation to the Dominican Republic.

The Caribbean is full of Netflix-worthy resorts, so imagine my surprise when the Love Is Blind couples were whisked away to the very same resort in the Dominican Republic where I was proposed to just a few weeks ago: the Grand Palladium Punta Cana.

If you’re wondering whether that resort is as awesome as the cast made it sound, it is. And yes, we paid full price for our trip. After I turned into that Leonardo DiCaprio meme (you know the one where he frantically points at the TV?), I got to thinking: Why don’t more people get engaged at this tropical all-inclusive resort?! Not convinced? Let’s break it down:

  1. It’s beachside and 80 degrees in January. Enough said.
  2. There are photographers roaming literally everywhere to capture your big moment. And all the moments before and after.
  3. All inclusive = celebratory Champagne basically grows on trees.

  4. It’s all-inclusive, so food and drinks are everywhere, all the time. I’m talking massive breakfast buffets with fresh squeezed juice, nine different restaurants, and the option to book a private seaside lobster dinner.
  5. Mamajuana. Calm down and read that again slowly. It’s a Dominican spirit and a guaranteed fantastic time. It’s a smooth, spiced combination of rum, honey, red wine, tropical tree bark, and herbs. In a very non-traditional twist, we paired it with coke and created something that tasted like boozy Dr. Pepper.
  6. Staged areas that encourage a “big moment." The spot where he popped the question looked like it had been staged by Cupid himself and they leave it up year-round.

  7. You’ll already have a vacation manicure to complement the engagement ring. If you don’t, I need you to seriously re-prioritize your vacation prep.
  8. The downright friendliest staff I’ve ever met in my entire life.
  9. No kids allowed. At least in the part of the resort. Sorry kiddos, I’d rather not see you galavanting in the background of all my photos.
  10. And the best part? The engagement bliss bubble. Being newly engaged without having to immediately go back to the responsibilities of everyday life? 10 outta 10, would recommend. When you’re floating on cloud nine with your freshly minted fiancé, the absolute last thing you want to do is respond to an urgent Slack message, “hop on a quick call,” or take the dog out to poo at 8 a.m. Book a room for a week, pop the question early, and bask in a few days of lovey dovey mushy bliss.

Although the cast didn’t get engaged at the resort, I’d bet my last nickel they would have rather been there for it than behind that glowing blue wall.

Getting engaged on a tropical island was my idea of a fairytale. At the end of the day, your love is your love. Being able to celebrate this milestone in an extravagant way is undoubtedly a blessing, but do what works for you, your partner, and your budget.
