An Auburn man was sentenced to three years behind bars in a case of communicating with a person he believed to be under the age of 16 about explicit sexual conduct, according to court documents.
Stewart Myles Mitchell, 34, took a plea deal on two counts of electronic enticement of a child and two counts of obscene internet contact with a child Jan. 7.
Superior Court Judge Kathlene Gosselin sentenced the Auburn man to a total of 20 years, with the first three years to be served in confinement. Mitchell will receive credit for time served since March 2019, and the rest of the sentence may be served on probation.
Attorney Chris van Rossem declined to comment.
According to the accusation, Mitchell attempted to entice a person “believed by (Mitchell) to be a child under the age of 16” to “commit an illegal act relating to the offense of child molestation.”
The dates listed in the accusation are Feb. 21, 2019, and March 5, 2019.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office previously told The Times investigators searched Mitchell’s home after obtaining a warrant, seizing items for analysis.
According to the terms of probation, Mitchell is barred from Hall and Dawson counties and will be subject to the special sex offender conditions of probation.
