Professional Snowboarder Kyle Mack Picks His 10 Favorite Electronic Tracks - Billboard

A massive dance music fan, Mack is competing in this weekend's X Games Aspen, which also features performances from Illenium, Alesso & more.

When Kyle Mack won the silver medal at the 2018 winter olympics in Pyeongchang, it was electronic music playing in his headphones that pumped him up before competing.

Mack's love of electronic music is well-documented, with the 22-year-old professional snowboarder hanging with dance acts like Louis the Child, Alesso and The Chainsmokers and jumping behind the decks himself at last years X Games after party. He even taught Steve Aoki to do a 360.

This weekend, Mack is participating in the X Games Aspen, which features a bevy of extreme winter sports including skiing, snowmobiling and snowboarding, along with the X Games Concert Series featuring performances from Alesso, Illenium, Bazzi, Rae Sremmurd and more.

To celebrate, here in his own words, Mack selects his ten favorite electronic tracks.

1. Louis the Child & Drew Love, "Free"

I had this song on repeat for the longest time. I've been a massive fan of Louis the Child for the longest time, and it’s been rad having the opportunity to have legit friendship with these guys. I pretty much go to as many of their shows as possible. One of the best moments of 2019 was when I got to see them play at X Games Aspen and then again when they closed off weekend at Belly Up Aspen, which is a tiny venue. The show was extremely intimate, and the crowd was insane.

Funny story too, they came over to my place with Drew Love after their New Years show. My mom had them play this song about five times cause she didn’t understand which part they all played.

2. GriZ feat. Snoop Dogg & ProbCause, "My Friends and I Pt. 2"

I love GriZ. Like me, he’s from Detroit so his tracks really hit home for me. I travel a good amount throughout the year, so whenever I miss home I’ll throw on some GriZ. This one specifically takes me back to the memories I’ve made at Electric Forest with the Forest Fam.

3. Rezz feat. Underoath, "Falling"

I love Rezz and this song is my favorite of hers -- it’s so sick. Although I've never been into metal, this collab comes so naturally. It’s rad when you get to see two completely different genres meshed together to make a masterpiece.

4. Mac Miller, "Blue Slide Park"

Even though this isn’t a dance track, I had to put this one on the list. I know the whole album by heart. Still really bums me out to think about Mac’s passing, but his memory will live on through his music. His music has played a huge influence in my life. This very song will always be one of my favorites, and has stuck with me through the thick and thin. It’s safe to say the whole album actually made me who I am today.

5. Mura Masa feat. A$AP Rocky, "Love$ick"

Who doesn’t love A$AP Rocky? And this remix is just so ill. The drop is so melodic, and the track as a whole is so pleasant. This is definitely a feel-good track. It takes me back to when I first met Steve Aoki and taught him how to do a 360 in Highland Mountain (Colorado) for the Grand Prix. The contest ended up getting canceled, so I couldn’t compete and Steve was no longer able to perform. But that didn't stop us from snowboarding: Steve and I decided to go down a run, and after walking him through the steps, he landed his first 360. It was a beautiful moment.

6. Zhu x Skrillex x They., "Working For It"

Who can’t like this song? It's absolute fire! This collaboration is a gift from the heavens.

7. TroyBoi feat. icekream, "Snobby"

The low bass slow wobble and trap beat is so fun to listen to!

8. The Chainsmokers and Illenium feat. Lennon Stella, "Takeaway"

Really fell in love with this song after going head-to-head on XBox with The Chainsmokers last year. We played “Steep,” and the whole thing was streamed on Twitch, so fans really got to see our video gaming skills. We ended up having a ton of fun that day. Drew and Alex are great dudes, and I’m definitely a big fan -- especially after seeing them perform at the X Games Aspen last year. On top of that, I'm also hoping ILLENIUM throws down this track at the X Games Aspen this weekend.

9. Odesza, "Loyal"

Odesza is hands down my favorite, so anything they put out is amazing. When I first heard this one I was hooked. They would pretty much play it at every show but never released it. Can’t wait for them to drop another album!

10. Pretty Lights, "I Know the Truth"

This one is a classic. Every time I listen to this -- I always wonder what was going through his head when he produced this gem. Pretty Lights is basically a mad scientist when it comes to producing. To me it feels so deep, so when I’m going through a hard time I listen to this. I like to board to this one also, I can just hone in to this track’s complex beats.
