Bartise Bowden and Nancy Rodriguez had a super solid relationship throughout the first three episodes of Love Is Blind season 3, but Bartise has put their engagement in serious jeopardy with the comments he made at the end of episode 4. After coming off like a nice guy for most of the first batch of episodes, Bartise cranked up the F-boy energy when all the engaged couples had an opportunity to meet face-to-face in Malibu.
Once Bartise spotted Raven Ross, he began making comments to the camera that were extremely disrespectful considering he was engaged to another woman at this point. Specifically, he referred to Raven as a "smokeshow". Raven, who had been struggling to connect physically to her fiancé SK Alagbada, had a physical attraction to Bartise as well. While there wasn't any serious flirting at the party, Bartise appeared to drink heavily, taking shots with Raven and the other women while the edit showed Nancy off to the side eating. When Bartise got into bed with Nancy, he gradually revealed how he felt about Raven's appearance, shockingly calling her a "smokeshow" to Nancy's face. Nancy, understandably, was perturbed by the language he used to describe a woman he supposedly rejected in the pods and was likely worried about Bartise cheating during filming.
It remains to be seen whether Bartise and Nancy are able to overcome this obstacle, but it seems extremely unlikely. The way Bartise described Raven to Nancy made it clear to her he wasn't as attracted to her. This is worse than Jarrette Jones flirting with Mallory Zapata in season 2, or Matt Barnett giving Jessica Batten an opportunity to share her true feelings in season 1. Bartise wasn't just being mean to the cameras; he was disrespectful to Nancy to her face.
Nancy had made what fans felt was the better judgment call by dumping Andrew Liu when he knelt to propose in the pods. Immediately after, he was shown squeezing eye drops onto his face to make it look like he was crying in his confessional. Bartise's lack of readiness for marriage was more difficult for Nancy to spot. While he told the men he was prepared to marry Nancy in four weeks, he clearly still had eyes for Raven.
Even if Bartise regrets what he told Nancy and wakes up the next day trying to convince her that he didn't mean what he said and that he was drunk, Nancy shouldn't give Bartise another chance. While hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey encourage the cast to explore options in the pods, it's all about commitment post-engagement. Bartise told his fiancée he is more physically attracted to the other woman he connected with in the pods, and that's something she'd never be able to get over if they stayed together.
