MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – It was supposed to be a fight between romantic rivals, but one of them showed up to their meeting ready to shoot in the parking lot of a busy shopping plaza in Miami-Dade County’s Tamiami neighborhood, according to police.
The alleged 19-year-old paramour, Jacob David Hidalgo, brought an 18-year-old accomplice, Antonio DeJesus Infante Bacallao — and both were both armed, according to the arrest report.
Police said that the victim had agreed to fight Hidalgo, who had had an affair with his girlfriend, outside the Fresco y Más supermarket at Southwest Eighth Street and 122nd Avenue on Nov. 8.
The victim told police he brought his girlfriend with him. The pair saw Hidalgo and Infante masked as they pulled up in a black Infiniti Q50, causing them to feel “unsafe” and attempt to flee, an arrest report states.
Police said Hidalgo and Infante Bacallao blocked the pair and fired off nine rounds. The victim and his girlfriend eventually escaped.
Authorities said they later went to Hidalgo’s home on Southwest 16th Terrace and saw the Infiniti drive by. Police said they pulled over the car with Infante Bacallao and Hidalgo inside.
The pair weren’t arrested at the time, but authorities found a Glock 26 gun on Hidalgo and a Springfield Armory XD5 pistol in the car, an arrest report states.
A forensic analysis would later reveal that Hidalgo fired three of the nine shots, police said; authorities arrested him Wednesday at his home on two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Infante Bacallao remained at-large as of Thursday, according to the arrest report.
Hidalgo was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $25,000 bond, according to jail records.
