California Widows Marry After Falling in Love at Senior Living Facility: 'At Our Age, We Can't Waste Any Time' - PEOPLE

Two California widows are embracing a second chance at love in their golden years!

Faye Guerrero, 84, and Rob Trueax, 76, met in the dining hall of their senior living facility, Brookdale Folsom, and immediately sparked a connection, according to CBS News Sacramento. Just five weeks later, on New Year's Day, Trueaux proposed and the pair soon made it official, tying the knot on March 16.

"I really liked him," Guerrero recalled of her first impression of Trueax, noting his "romantic" sensibility and "great sense of humor."

“We started eating at our own table, just the two of us, to give us an opportunity to talk a lot,” he added of the beginnings of their relationship.

The pair bonded over their experiences of losing their respective spouses. Trueax was married for 40 years, and he told the outlet that her death "left a hollow spot."

As for Guerrero, her husband died years ago, and she believed that was the end of her romantic journey.

“I was never interested in getting married again, but [Trueax] just changed my mind,” she said.

After Trueax popped the question, the wedding planning began in earnest. “I figure at our age, we can’t waste any time,” he said of the couple's whirlwind romance.

He drew up their wedding plans on paper — including an area for dancing — and when the big day arrived, the couple said "I do" in front of a fireplace, just steps from where they first laid eyes on each other.

Kristian Bie, Brookdale's resident program director, helped plan the nuptials, which were attended by family, friends and fellow residents.

"It's our first Brookdale wedding," Bie told CBS News Sacramento. "It just shows people there is a lot of hope, reconnecting with people or connecting with people."

While she's found love again with Trueax, Guerrero still wears the diamond wedding ring her first husband gave her alongside her new gold band as a reminder that love can bloom again after loss.

“If somebody is open to it, even if they are not planning on it, it’s a pleasant surprise,” she said.
